For The Right Reasons

Yea I know; it's been a minute! It's interesting how we allow work and other aspects of our life to impede our quest to achieve a healthy goal weight.

I've been on a whirlwind of weight loss and weight gain since the beginning of the year. Even though I was seeing a dietitian at the time, I just kept yo-yoing all over the place.

I've had a number of people comment on my weight and frankly, it's beginning to get irritating. Perhaps it's because I don't believe they actually care but are only interested in saying what they know will hurt my feelings and hit a very tender nerve.

Nevertheless, I won't let this deter me from achieving my goals. I will keep pressing on towards the mark with the Lord as my helper.

Will keep this page more active with updates so check in from time to time.

Toodles pals.

Weigh In 7

Last Week's weight: 244.2 lbs

This week's weight: 243.5 lbs

A loss of 0.7lbs this week. Not the best, but not the worst either.

I have decided to resume my workouts, as I feel that will help me hit the 1lb loss a week consistently.

Let's see how this week goes.

Weigh In 3

Last week's weight : 249.7 lbs

This week's weight: 247.7 lbs

This week was a good week, I lost 2 lbs. Yayy!

Anyway, on the clothes front, some old clothes that were too tight are becoming too loose. Exercise-wise, I didn't do any exercise this week. Was battling a nasty cold and was too scared to go for my morning walks; weird but true :).

I think seeing the dietitian was the best decision I've made all year... and I have made a lot of decisions.

I decided not to set any major goals as I hate disappointments. My only goal is to lose something each week. Whether it is 0.5, 1, 2 or 2.2, all I want is to lose something. Know what I mean?

Hope your week went as well as my mine. Feel free to share.

Cheers.

Reboot Begins.

So, I finally got serious and started my new regime yesterday. I even weighed in to make sure that the weekly weigh-ins happen.

My weight as at yesterday morning :(
Yesterday was quite a busy day. I went for a walk and burnt some calories. Luckily I was able to get another Garmin FR70 at a good price and that help me monitor how much I had burnt. Removed my HRM chest strap before remembering to take a picture.

I also did some meal prepping for the week. Made enough vegetable (cabbage, carrot and green pepper) and chicken luncheon meat stew to last for four days.

Paired portions with a cup of rice and a cup of wok noodles for lunch on Monday and Tuesday. Will also be making sandwiches with the cold cut turkey bacon and pita bread I bought. I also grilled some chicken breasts and chopped them up for my salads.

I intend to ensure that every meal I eat this week comes from my kitchen. Today I will complete my meal prepping exercise by getting some avocado, pineapples, mangoes and lettuce. Will share pictures with you as I go.

Let the week begin.

Weigh In No. 3, Jogging, Life.........

Last week was full of events. The company I work for celebrated its 20th year in the Advertising and Public Relations industry so we had to organize a party. I also ended a long exhausting relationship that I had been in and out of in the last three years. Phew! I was so relieved when it happened. No tears were shed, I must say. I was actually happy it was over. To be honest, I don't even miss him :-).

Anyways, I'm still alternating between jogging and walking. I walk briskly on days that my knees feel tired. It feels really good to be consistent though. I'm actually making friends on the route I use. Seems everyone is realizing the benefits of exercise, right?

TOM came knocking over the weekend so I wasn't surprised when I saw a gain on the scale this morning. Oh well, the scale won't discourage me though.

Previous Weigh In: 208.3 lbs
Today's Weigh In: 209.4 lbs
Loss: None
Gain: 1.1 lbs

Have a lovely day.

Weigh In, Falling in Love With Jogging....

It is amazing how easy it is to acquire a habit. Despite my foot sprain, I managed to walk and occasionally jog throughout the Christmas period. Since January, I've been jogging frequently. I find that I prefer this to actually going to the gym. I wake up at 3:50am and leave the house by 4am. Today I increased the distance and it took my 1hr 20mins to complete my walk/jog session. I feel so good about this.

Anyways, I said I was going to resume the weekly weigh ins so here we go:

Previous Weigh In: 213lbs
Today's Weigh In: 210.5lbs
Loss: 2.5lbs

Well, I guess I'm going to continue doing this.

2012 In Review.

The year has almost come to a close and I decided to review my year to see if I was really able to do any of the things I had set out to do. Did I lose weight? Did I change my eating habits? Well, let's find out.

Weight Loss
I set a goal to lose 50 pounds by this year. Unfortunately, I failed :-(. However, I realized that weight loss was a daily battle and that I would continue striving to be a better, fitter and healthier person.

Clothing
So, I was hoping to wear a UK size 14 by the end of the year. I managed to get to a size 16 for some clothes. I know it's not the same but I believe I have learnt  many lessons that will make me achieve this goal in 2013.

Exercise
I had a couple of exercise goals in 2013. And I was surprised that I was able to achieve some of them.

Complete the C25K program: I got to Week 8 and just froze. I don't even know why. After completing Week 7 I just couldn't motivate myself to continue. Will I try again in 2013? Definitely.

Walk a 10K on the treadmill or outdoors: I'm proud to say that I achieved this goal on the 9th of May 2012. It was a cool evening at the gym and it took me almost two hours to complete but, I did it and was so damn proud of myself.

Run for 15 minutes straight: Check! Check! Check! Did this for the first time on  April 24, 2012. It felt so good. I, Enyonam, actually ran/jogged for that long without dying. lol!

Do at least one kind of exercise daily: Is there a half mark for this? I mean, I exercised at least three times a week most of the time. We'll be putting this goal up for 2013.

Do at least one type of ab exercise daily: Total fail! I'm not even going to try explaining why.

Diet

Eat less fast food: I think I did better at this than last year. I can actually count the number of times I ate fast food this year as opposed to last year. I cooked more meals at home.

Drink more water: Pass! I did drink more water this year. Made sure to consume at least three litres daily. There were days when I drank less because I took in fruits that contained lots of water but on the whole I think I passed this one.

Eat more fruits and vegetables: Another pass! I took in more smoothies than anyone in my home. And before you attack, I made these smoothies with fresh fruits only. I had lots of salads and vegetable stir fries too.

Eliminate deep fried foods for 6 months: Not sure about this one. I don't really eat a lot of fried foods but, I did eat chips at some point. I ate less of the fried foods but I can't say i did this for 6 months straight.

Drink more herbal teas and less processed drinks: Fail! I still drank Diet Coke. Reduced my frequency  of intake but still drank it. :-( And funny enough, I drank less herbal teas.

I still ate white rice and refined carbs but, it was to a lesser extent as compared to 2011.

On the whole I can't say I'm happy with what I achieved but, I must admit that the year wasn't a total failure. There was a time when I would have taken advantage of the holidays and shoved everything in sight down my throat. Now, I actually exercised during the holidays and ate thoughtfully. I may not have lost 50lbs but I'm proud that I didn't gain more than what I weighed at the beginning of the year.

I'm off to set my goals for 2013. Don't be surprised to see a repeat of some of the listed goals since I'm not going to give up that easily.

Identifying Culprits....

Mental note to self; Diet Soda does not help my weight loss efforts. After a couple of experiments I realized that I gain anytime I drink Diet Coke. I guess my body identifies it as one of the bad guys. So no more diet coke or pepsi  for me.

I also noticed that I'm consuming food that is three to four times less than what I used to eat before. It's amazing to find that the body needs very little amounts of the various food groups to thrive. Wow! So where did all the junk use to go in the past? Of course that was a rhetorical question, the mirror in my room shows me the answer every morning. Lol!

Exercise has been pretty good lately. Unfortunately my  foot hurts so there may be no workouts for me today. Guess it's from all the skipping I've been doing lately. Not my fault, I really love skipping :-). Will try the elliptical though to see if I can handle it tonight. I went on a three week gym hiatus but I will be resuming attendance next week. I'm glad that my trainer will get to see a loss on the scale even though he hasn't seen me in three weeks. Though I've been telling him about my workouts, I have a feeling that he has a few doubts.

181 Days Left......

Yes. I have 181 days left to prove that I didn't just waste 181 opportunities to lose weight. My year started well and then things went haywire in April. I found it difficult to balance my late hours at the office with exercise. Heck! I was usually too tired to prepare a meal let alone exercise. I felt so ashamed when I realized that I haven't hit any of my weight loss goals for the year.

However, I'm not just going to sit down and feel sorry for myself. I fell and now I'm getting back up. The goals remain the same. If it means I have to workout out twice a day to ensure that I have had my 60minutes of daily exercise, then that's what I'm going to do. I'm tired of being fat dammit!

13 Down.... 39 to Go!

So, I was reviewing my weight loss for the year and I realized that though I have not achieved most of my goals set for the year, I seem to have made a bit of progress. I have lost 11.8lbs since January meaning, an average of 3.8lbs a month.

Some of the habits that I have been able to maintain are:

  • I drink a lot of water
  • I eat more fruits and vegetables on a daily basis
I am still trying to avoid the refined carbs... not easy but, I try to take such foods at most ONCE a week. I have drastically reduced my intake of diet sodas - I only take those when out with friends or at the movies. My clothes are also loose. Yesterday, I wore a dress I haven't worn in 3 years to church. Oh yeah baby! That's a total NSV there. :-)

So, I guess I have 39 weeks left to lose 38.2lbs if I'm going to meet my goal of losing 50lbs by December. I can do this. Oh yes! I can!

Losing Inches...

Yesterday my trainer took measurements and guess what? I've lost two inches on almost every part of my body. Hips, arms, calves, waist. I'm so excited and I plan to keep it that way. Won't get carried away this Christmas. :-)

Merry Christmas to everyone. Chill but don't freeze. :-)

Slow But Sure Progress...

So, as I was adding new photos to my album last night, I came across across a few pictures from the past two years. Though my progress has been very slow, I still am very proud of the fact that I keep moving forward. Thank goodness for that.
The last picture was taken on Thursday. Was really tired and it was only 2pm. lol! Notice any changes?

I await your thoughts.

I Love My Gym!

So, I started exercising at a new gym on Saturday. The experience was totally awesome! It's not often that you find trainers paying attention to you and giving you tasks that suit your needs and weight. After weighing in I was asked to do 30 minutes on the treadmill. After which I did 15 minutes on the elliptical and 45minutes with different weight exercises. I still feel sore but guess what! I love the fact that I feel that way since it means one thing, my muscles were being worked.

Anyway, woke up today and weighed in at 202.6lbs. I have 16 days to reach onederland and with the recent exercise regime, I think I will get there. Can't wait to get to the gym this evening and burn those calories. :-)

Moving Forward!

This week I decided to start all over with the weight loss thing. The goal is to exercise for at least 30 minutes each day and eat right. So far everything seems to be going well. I've exercised consistently for three days. Hopefully, this will continue till the end of the month.

This morning I weighed in at 92.1kg... as opposed to 92.8kg on Monday. This means I've lost a pound already! I'm sure that I will be reaching onederland by the end of this month. All I need to do is lose four more pounds.

Wish me luck...

Before And Now!

So, I was looking at a few pictures and I came across one the one picture that made me realise that I was obese. Sigh!

This was how I looked at 242 pounds. Gosh! I hated it!

Now, this was taken last week. It may not be a great difference but I'm feeling good.

This is me at 202.6 pounds. Yes..  I can't wait to hit Onederland!!

98.8: It's Gonna Get Better.

It feels so good knowing that the weight is coming off with hard work. Met a good friend yesterday evening and she also noticed that I was losing weight. Yay! That's enough motivation if you ask me.

Anyway, since I don't really have much to say, I'm just gonna leave you with good wishes for the weekend. Do by all means, try to resist temptation. ;-)

Ta ta.....
